Let Kary Movers give you some transparent advice about packing for your move. We mean that quite literally. Clear plastic containers, plastic wrap and plastic bags can make moving much breezier.
Use a clear plastic bin to store the items you’ll need first on arrival at your new home. This includes a potpourri of frequently-needed things like paper towels, scissors, a box cutter, trash bags, eating utensils, power strips, phone chargers, toilet paper, and small tools. The clear bin not only lets you see inside. It also separates your essentials from the stacks of cardboard boxes.
Plastic sandwich bags have so many uses, we’re not even sure why they call them sandwich bags. You’ve probably already noticed that they come in handy for a variety of things, many of them not edible. At moving time, they’ve got a hundred uses: including storing small parts of curtain rods or mounted flat-screen TVs and cords for electronics. Tape the sandwich bags to the back of the item they correspond to.
Saran Wrap to the rescue. Cover the openings of your toiletries with saran wrap, then put the tops back on. This will keep your toiletries from breaking and leaking all over your stuff during the move. This is an idea you could have used on your last vacation, no? Remember how everything inside your suitcase was covered in hand lotion? Yeah. Never again.
Press’n Seal, or something similar can turn your dresser drawers into moving boxes. This will keep their contents of dresser drawers intact and save you from having to unpack and refold their contents. It’ll also make moving the actual dresser much more manageable.
Press’n Seal is also great for keeping jewelry displays intact and saving you from having to dismantle and then then reassemble and possibly untangle necklaces and match up earrings. Unless you really like that sort of thing.
Garbage bags help you pack your closets fast. Stretch a garbage bag over as many hanging clothes as you can, from the bottom, while they’re hanging. A wardrobe box makes it a little easier, but if you’re really on a budget and want to save money on wardrobe boxes, this is a good alternative solution that keeps your clothes on their hangers and tightly packed, for much faster unpacking.
Stretch Wrap: for the bigger stuff. Now that you’re enjoying this plastic wrap world, step it up a notch. A roll of stretch wrap works like Press’n Seal but on a larger scale. You can group items or even boxes together. It’ll also keep your furniture from getting scratched.
